Drinking water tests clean
STANDERTON - AfriForum ran tests to determine the water quality of Standerton on Saturday, 9 February. The town’s drinking water as well as its waste water was tested. “We can confirm that the drinking water of Standerton is clean and there are no illegal bacteria or heavy metals present.
AfriForum will be monitoring and evaluating the water quality on a regular basis to ensure that the constitutional rights of Standerton’s residents are protected and that clean drinking water is supplied to them,” said Chris Boshoff, AfriForum’s Mpumalanga assistant coordinator.
AfriForum has been invested in Standerton’s water problem since 2015. “These positive consequences have proved that organised communities can rise up to protect their civil rights with the assistance of organisations like AfriForum,” Boshoff pointed out.
AfriForum also voiced their concern about the inflow of Grootdraai dam. “We will have to give more attention to the sewage that flows from Morgenzon and Bethal. We cannot allow that the negligence of other municipalities be the cause of our water resources being polluted and we plan on taking action against this, of course with the assistance of Standerton’s residents’, Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum Standerton’s branch manager said. ‘We request the residents of Standerton to give AfriForum the mandate to perform the necessary water tests on the water of Morgenzon and Bethal, to ensure that immediate action is taken if any irregularities are found within the water.
SMS ‘STANDERTON’ to 45350 and give your support towards this action. Each SMS costs R1, Boshoff concluded.
AfriForums national Blue and Green Drop Project focuses on the affairs of town’s drinking water and sewage plants. This project does not just focus on the conditions of the sewage plants themselves but on the quality of the water, that after being processed becomes drinking water (Blue Drop) and treated sewage water (Green Drop).
