Georgies honour Nelson Mandela

STANDERTON - The new school term started with a bang as the whole country was reminded of Nelson Mandela and his wonderful legacy on Mandela Day (18 July) and the pupils and staff of Hoërskool George Hofmeyr set off to do their 67 minutes of goodwill.

They visited Shukuma Primary School in Rooikoppen where the principal, Ms TH Maseko, the teachers and pupils were waiting in anticipation. The Georgies were introduced to the pupils and everyone sang songs together after which the pupils were encouraged to spend some quality time together. The pupils of Shukuma were motivated to live up to their full potential and to focus on their school work to ensure a better future for themselves and their families.

The visit ended with some treats for the pupils of Shukuma and the promise that the Georgies will visit them again. According to Ms Magda Kriel, Principal of Hoërskool George Hofmeyr, both groups thoroughly enjoyed the visit and that friendships were made that can benefit both groups in the future.

“As Tatta Nelson once said: ‘There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return,’” Kriel explained.
