Community now doing maintenance
STANDERTON - These men rolled up their sleeves and repaired the damaged roads in their neighbourhood following the ash floods that hit Standerton two weeks ago. Access roads in Sakhile have been eroded and drainage pipes blocked.
Others are severely damaged to such an extent that some motorists have no access to their homes. When Lekwa Municipality failed to assist in their plight, citing financial challenges and a lack of funds, these men, with a donation of bricks from Civic Voice, went around every affected street to do repairs and close up potholes.
They are using their energy and limited resources to make a big difference in the community.
These volunteers are hard at work to repair Cele Street in Phalama Section. From left to right are Sam Mbatha , Nkosana Mdlalose, Oupa Ngwenya, and Sibusiso Nhlapo.
