STANDERTON - Here follows a response from Lekwa Local Municipality to our front page article of 17 February 2017.
“It has to be noted that the municipality was never requested for any comments on the matter in order to produce fair reporting. The municipality is unable to meet the required level of service on both roads and storm-water infrastructure due to budgetary constraints which comes as a result of the municipality’s 68% average collection rate from the consumers.
The current existing storm-water infrastructure needs to be upgraded to meet the huge demand or increased volume of surface water caused by the following factors: High densification of both residential and urban areas and current climate change (increased rainfall figures).
Although the municipality has developed ‘Storm-water Master Plan’ for Extensions 4, 6, 7 and Morgenzon, the municipality is unable to implement it due to the prioritization of the water, sanitation and electricity project. We further acknowledge and accept assistance from local businesses although we urge that it should be communicated to the Municipality prior to it taking place.
It will be highly appreciated if the municipality’s side of the story can be published in order to have fair reporting on the matter.” (sic)
