Case against Lekwa Municipality workers withdrawn
STANDERTON - Seven employees of Lekwa Municipality who were facing several charges including assault, malicious damage to property and intimidation are of the hook for now after the Magistrate in Regional Court withdrew the charges against them on Thursday,11 May.
Apparently the evidence was lacking. The state failed to present a formidable case against the accused. A case was opened by the Municipal Manager, Mr Linda Tshabalala, in 2016 after he was forcefully removed from his office by agitated members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU), following a string of allegations of corruption, mismanagement and incompetence.
Their legal representative told the media after the case was withdrawn that he has always maintained that the state has no case against the accused. In the meantime, the employees are contemplating to sue the Municipal Manager for deformation of character, but they are seeking legal advice from their representatives.
